Title: Laser beam welding of high strength aluminum-lithium alloys—problems and solutions
Aluminum-lithium (Al-Li) alloys are new kind of very potential light-weight structural materials in aerospace and aircraft industry due to their lower density, higher specific strength and rigidity, better corrosion and fatigue crack growth resistance properties. Laser beam welding (LBW) has been considered the most advanced joining process for aluminum alloys. However, there are still a number of problems and issues to be answered and solved in LBW of high strength Al-Li alloys. In this talk, the main problems such as porosity, hot cracking and degradation of mechanical properties and their corresponding solutions will be presented.
Dr. Rongshi Xiao is currently a full Professor in Beijing University of Technology (BJUT). Prior to joining BJUT, he worked in Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), where he also obtained both his Bachelor''''s and Master''''s degrees in Mechanical Engineering. He received a PhD degree in optics at BJUT in 1997. He was visiting scholar at the Institute of Technical Physics of the German Aerospace Research Establishment (DLR) and Institüt für Strahlwerkzeug (IFSW) of the University of Stuttgart. His research interests include laser welding, additive manufacturing and ultrafast laser manufacturing. He authored or co-authored 8 books and over 180 papers, and holds over 40 patents. He won a number of awards due to his academic achievements.
